At 2,400 CFS average, this section of the 840-mile Brazos runs Class I-II with optimal flows between 300 and 3,000 CFS. The canyon stretch below Possum Kingdom Dam offers the most protected water, while the Palo Pinto to Lake Whitney section spreads wider through working ranch land. Possum Kingdom State Park manages access and outfitting for the upper canyon, and the river carries Texas Paddling Trail designation through this reach.
