Tennessee Trophy Trout Stream · Great Falls Dam Tailwater

About

Caney Fork River — Center Hill Dam and Cordell Hull Dam. Below Great Falls Dam, the Caney Fork runs as Tennessee's newest trophy trout tailwater through White and DeKalb counties. Cold releases from the dam create world-class fishing conditions that earned Trophy Trout Stream designation in 2024. The tailwater section flows Class I-II at an average 2,200 CFS, with optimal fishing and paddling conditions between 200-1,500 CFS according to USGS gauge 03424860. Above the influence of Center Hill Lake, the upper Caney Fork continues as Class I-II water through 145 miles of total length. The Rock Island to Center Hill stretch drops through canyon country at Class I gradients. Caney Fork Outdoors provides guided access to the fishery, which has quickly gained recognition among trophy trout anglers since the recent designation.
