Blue River, Oklahoma — 1840s-1880s Frontier, 1990s-2010s Blue River PFHA, 1985 Designated Trout Stream 10-mi Johnston County. Spring-fed headwaters near Connerville launch 30 miles of clear water through Johnston County's limestone country at 280 CFS average. The Blue River holds steady flows year-round from major springs in the Arbuckle Mountains, with optimal paddling between 100–800 CFS on gauge 07332500. The upper 15 miles from Connerville to Blue River CCC Camp run through the spring-fed section with the coldest, clearest water. Below the CCC Camp, the river widens through 15 miles of broader valley to Milburn, forming deeper limestone pools that hold trout and bass. Class I-II water throughout, with occasional rock gardens and ledges but nothing technical. The Blue River Public Fishing Area manages access and camping along the corridor. This was Chickasaw Nation territory, centered around the Arbuckle Springs that still feed the river's headwaters. Oklahoma designated it a Scenic River to protect the spring-fed character and limestone bluffs that define the drainage.
