Wolf River, MS and the 1864 Battle of Westport. From McHenry to Lyman, the Wolf River runs 35 miles through Stone and Harrison counties as a Mississippi Scenic Stream, averaging 380 CFS through Class I water optimal between 100–800 CFS. The upper section from McHenry to Landon stays narrow and wild through forested corridors, while below Landon the river widens into coastal plain character toward the Gulf. The Biloxi and Pascagoula peoples knew these waters long before European contact. The Wolf River Conservation District, established in 2012, now oversees protection of the watershed.
