About

Blue River, Indiana — First State-Protected Natural Scenic River. Indiana's first Natural & Scenic River designation went to the Blue River in 1973, protecting 50 miles of limestone country through Harrison and Crawford counties. The river runs at 480 CFS average with optimal flows between 200–800 CFS on USGS gauge 03303000. Class I-II water predominates, with the Fredericksburg to White Cloud stretch covering the best 20 miles of the system. Below White Cloud, the final 15 miles to Leavenworth widen as the river approaches the Ohio. Harrison-Crawford State Forest protects much of the corridor.
